The Geely Starray, a four-door, five-passenger luxury SUV from Chinese automaker Geely, combines high-end features with affordability. Priced at approximately $27,000 if sold in the United States, the Starray challenges the notion that luxury must come with a hefty price tag. As the parent company of Volvo, Polestar, and Lotus, Geely leverages its expertise in luxury design and technology to deliver a vehicle with sophisticated interior features, including a Squircle-style steering wheel, ambient lighting, and a large vertical center screen reminiscent of those found in higher-priced Volvo and Polestar models.
Despite its attractive price point, the Geely Starray is not available for sale in the United States due to trade policies. The Starray’s interior is designed with modern aesthetics and functionality in mind, featuring a low-set driver display to keep the driver’s line of vision clear, a head-up display, and a glass-topped gear selector that adds a touch of elegance to the driving experience.
The Starray’s comfortable interior, advanced technology, and overall quality make it an incredible deal for those who can access it. This vehicle stands out in the competitive EV market, showcasing Geely’s commitment to delivering luxury and value to consumers worldwide.

Chinese cars are getting rave reviews as they start to gain a very slight presence in North America—mostly in Mexico and via cameo appearances at auto shows, trade shows and other venues.
People are curious to see what these cars are all about, the designs, technology an price, which almost always bests what we see in dealership showrooms in the US.
But getting to take a test drive is an even more rare opportunity. I recently spent a couple days in the Geely Starray, driving it around Los Angeles as part of the World Car Awards test drives. I was able to put its gas-powered engine, which produces 218 hp and 240 pound-feet of torque, to work on highways and in traffic around town and get a feel for what this car is all about.
In many ways, the Starray is a less expensive, less powerful Volvo, a brand that Geely also owns along with Polestar. Taking a cue from other carmakers that build multiple brand models on the same platform, Geely, which is sold in 54 countries, is able to keep Volvo and Polestar elevated as luxury brands while offering a lower-priced version under the Geely name. This is a common strategy; Toyota, for instance, builds the Highlander and the Lexus RX 350 on the same platform, tailoring the finishes and performance to each brand’s value pillars.
The Starray’s dashboard is unique, notable for vertical pinstripe-style lighting—with colors that can be changed on the multimedia screen—and air vents horizontally integrated into the dash. The interior is upholstered in dual-tone leatherette and there are some nice flourishes, such as leatherette door and dashboard panels.
